8. What Perun does not do

For everyone.

  • Without declarations, Perun holds nothing. It does not know which of your tools can do damage until you tell it (Part 2, step 5).
  • Dangerous content without an action is caught only with the harm classifier on; tampered models are checked only with the model check on.
  • Images, audio and video are not read yet (attack type 9, in construction).
  • Leaks are matched literally. A paraphrase or a translation of your protected text is not recognised.
  • An agent that does not point at Perun is not protected. If someone changes the agent’s address, its calls skip Perun entirely.
  • Perun does not read your screen or other programs, and it does not change your agent’s code.
  • ARM computers are not supported yet, and your devices are not paired automatically (Part 6).
  • The coverage is by design, not yet measured. Our benchmark, Keel, will publish the measurements.
  • The better you set Perun up — what you declare, how your operators answer — the more it stops. What it cannot decide alone, it brings to a human first.

Agent — the AI program that does work for you and calls a model. Band — the healthy range of a theta: 25 to 35, around a normal of 30. Declaration — what you tell Perun about a tool or a destination: can it be undone, what may it touch. Perun proposes; a human confirms. Enemy — a source Perun stopped on your system. First contact — a source or tool Perun has not seen enough yet (fewer than thirty times); its irreversible actions are held. Gateway — the host’s door for members and for agents on other computers of your network. Hold — an action waiting for a human. Host / member — the computer with SHARED_LIB / the other computers of your system. Meter — the independent check on SHARED_LIB, controlled only by humans. Operator — a person who answers Perun’s questions. Ranked by the order of first login. Panic — Perun’s full stop when more than one SHARED_LIB exists in one system. Physician — the unit that cleans another unit that went wrong. Quarantine — where data taken out by a Physician waits; nothing is deleted. SHARED_LIB — Perun’s memory and judgement; the only authority under the humans. Source — whoever or whatever sends something to your agent: a person, another agent. Theta — a measure of balance, normal at 30, kept for everything alive in Perun — sources, units, SHARED_LIB, and operators. Unit — a small part of Perun that guards one source (or one channel).
